It was tough for those men in that room too folks, with almost NO CHANCE of victory, they stood on their morals, executed their plan and were victorious.

I understand that thinking, Illinois will go Democrat, regardless of the candidate. My dilemma is that the Libertarian Party is a threat to the GOP, probably the only area where the vote totals may make some on the national level at least take notice, not likely but hope springs eternal. They are welcome votes to the Democrats, which means if the popular vote is high for the Libertarian Party, the Democrats will feel free to bulldoze all consideration of the Conservatives surely a much smaller minority in Congress than currently, not even acknowledging any consideration due.

My position is that the GOP must reform itself and regroup, if they don't, it's going to be a very long time they'll be in power. The Libertarian Party will not be a threat to them, even if swelling greatly after the election, for at least 20 years.

Kath, I appreciate your willingness to consider the LP, and I certainly understand your concern regarding SCOTUS. I don't have an easy answer for that, but here's what I would suggest for a voting strategy: if Obama gets the Dem nomination (which looks more and more likely every day), then he's a lock to win Illinois in November. If that's the case, I'd ask you to consider whether it matters if you vote for McCain or for the LP candidate, and then vote for the one that best matches your political views.

Perhaps it's the difference in age my kids are just 'coming of age', while your kids have a future for you to fight for. I feel it's essential to have a chance to effect the SCOTUS and I'm not convinced that Hillary or Barack have what it takes to continue the war on terror. So, though I agree with nearly everything regarding issues above, it will be after this election when I'll probably join you, unless there is a serious turn around, which I really don't expect of the GOP.
