		<description>I think it's ego defence.  I know I don't like being proven wrong, especially with an audience!  But I am happier about admitting it publicly if I'm not going to be humiliated.  Of course that assumes that for every thread there is a right or wrong answer.  Sometimes there isn't and these are some of the most interesting threads, where opinions are discussed.  If there's no obvious right or wrong then we're engaged in divergent thinking.  That requires a bit of patience and a lot of courtesy but if it's a political thread you can bet both of those will be missing (and I'm not excluding myself from that).  

But what is annoying is that when a conclusion is reached which looks like it might be a solution some of us go into denial and will not countenance the conclusion, despite evidence and a well constructed, valid argument.</description>
